Brazil is renowned for its hospitality and the warm welcome extended to visitors. The 2024 Booking.com Traveller Review Awards ranked Flecheiras, a small beach in Ceará, as the most welcoming destination in Northeast Brazil and the sixth most hospitable in the country.
Most welcoming destination in Northeast Brazil
This year’s ranking placed Flecheiras in sixth place, outstanding many better-known beach destinations in Brazil. Sao Bento de Sapucai in Sao Paulo took the top spot, with Pedra Azul in Espirito Santo in second and Carrancas in Minas Gerais in third.
Flecheiras was the highest-ranking destination in Northeast Brazil, and its sixth position nationally places it well on the Brazil beach map. Booking.com compiled the rankings according to guests’ comments in destinations with at least 50 types of accommodation advertised on the platform.
Despite Flecheiras’ small size, the resort has a growing number of establishments offering holiday accommodation. They range from traditional posadas (the Brazilian equivalent of a hostel) to high-end resorts such as The Coral.
Flecheiras rising to national and international prominence
This beach lies some 170km north of Fortaleza, the capital of Ceará and is one of the lesser-known coastal stretches in the state. However, its stunning natural beauty has started to attract attention among discerning tourists.
In 2020, some media streams began to refer to it as the “new Jeri”, in reference to Jericocoara further north on the coast. This resort is one of the most popular in Brazil and attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year. Flecheiras offers the same stunning scenery but without the crowds.
In 2022, Brazil included Flecheiras as one of its star destinations at the International Tourist Fair. In 2024, the Ceará government announced a major infrastructure boost for the resort, with an R$1.44 million investment. The funds are destined to build a boardwalk along the coastline.
