A cosmopolitan city

Fortaleza is the state capital of Ceará, Brazil’s fifth largest city and a bustling metropolis famous for its relaxed, bohemian lifestyle and its friendly, welcoming people.

It has long been one of Northeast Brazil’s top tourist destinations with excellent tourism infrastructure. A lively, cosmopolitan city, Fortaleza is known as “sunshine city” as it enjoys more hours of sunshine a year than anywhere else in Brazil.

The city is set within one of the most beautiful surroundings characterised by sand dunes, blue-green waters of the Atlantic Ocean and 34km of exquisite beaches. Fortaleza’s beaches are renowned for their variety.

The Pinto Martins International Airport in Fortaleza serves as a primary transportation hub for Brazil’s north east. Visitors are able to enjoy a delectable choice of high-end restaurants and bars, a range of hotels and accommodation options, Forró clubs where you can learn the local dance, theatres, nightclubs and excellent shopping. There are numerous craft and artisan markets to explore and one of the best places to shop is the central market, which is set over four floors with over 600 shops.

The city is home to the Rio do Cocó ecological park, one of the largest city parks in South America, the largest water park in South America, and was one of the host cities for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
