Tourism in Ceará is set to receive an injection of R$27.7 million from the Brazilian government. The funds are allocated for tourist infrastructure and include a coastal boardwalk on the beach in Flecheiras.
Ministry of Tourism and Ceará government agreement
The political agenda in January began with a meeting between the Brazilian Ministry of Tourism and the Governor of Ceará. The two agreed on the allocation of R$27.7 million for 14 infrastructural works in the state.
The funds form part of the R$1.7 billion from the PAC 3 project, designed to upgrade and improve infrastructure in Brazil. “A large proportion of these projects are directly related to tourism,” said Celso Sabino, Ministry of Tourism in Brazil.
Flecheiras boardwalk top of the agenda
One of the star projects included in the latest plans is the construction of a boardwalk along the beach at Flecheiras. This stretch of coastline north of Fortaleza constitutes one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of Ceará.
Investment in the infrastructure at Flecheiras is in the region of R$1.44 million. The boardwalk will improve facilities in the area, a favourite holiday spot among well-to-do Brazilian holidaymakers for decades. It is, however, relatively unknown in wider circles.
The Governor of Ceará, Elmano de Freitas, emphasised the importance of the investment. “Here, the central and federal governments can work together to improve public policies in Brazil and Ceará,” he said. De Freitas also pointed out that Ceará welcomed over 5.5 tourists during 2023, a figure considerably higher than the previous year.
Other upgrades for tourism in Ceará
The funds also include the construction of a cultural centre in Morada Nova, an events centre in Quixelô and refurbishment and new infrastructure along the Camino de Assis, a popular pilgrimage route.
As well as Flecheiras, other beach resorts in Ceará will also receive infrastructure upgrades. Morro Branco beach, south of Fortaleza, is set to receive substantial investment to urbanise a large part of the resort.
