A recent survey on travel trends finds that Ceará is the fifth most sought-after destination in Brazil this year for foreign visitors. It also reveals that demand for this state among international tourists has risen by 4% in 2024.

Ceará top spot for holidays in Brazil

According to a survey from Kayak, one of the leading holiday search engines, Ceará ranks fifth for foreign tourists looking for holidays in Brazil. The survey analysed searches on the platform during 2023 for holidays this year.

It found that Ceará stands fifth in preference, with a 4% increase in demand compared to the previous year. Countries with the highest search volume for Ceará holidays were the US, Portugal, France, Germany and Chile.

Earlier this year, a ForwardKeys survey found that international tourism in Ceará is forecast to increase by 11% by the end of March this year.

Ceará also in demand among Brazilian tourists

A perennial favourite for staycations in Brazil, Ceará has surged as a holiday destination among Brazilians this year. The Kayak survey found that demand has grown by 18% this year. As a result, Ceará is the fifth most popular vacation spot in Brazil.

Fortaleza ranks even higher, occupying the fourth position. Significantly, the capital of Ceará stands ahead of both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, traditionally two of the most sought-after holiday destinations in Brazil.

Ceará’s USPs

The survey results come as no surprise to the Ceará Tourism Department. “We have a series of attractions, all of which appeal to foreigners,” said Yrwana Albuquerque, Secretary for Tourism in the state.

She highlighted Ceará’s lengthy coastline, with excellent beaches. In addition, many offer optimum conditions for sports such as kitesurf. “All this stands out in the survey as a differentiating factor in Brazil, giving us a top ranking,” said Albuquerque.

One such beach is Flecheiras, to the north of Fortaleza. This small resort recently ranked as the most welcoming destination in Northeast Brazil.

Two more international flights to Ceará

Fortaleza Airport continues to boost its international flights, adding value for foreigners planning to visit Ceará. GOL Airline recently announced the addition of two more flights connecting the US to Ceará. One will offer flights between Orlando and Fortaleza and the other from Miami. Both will be operational from June.

As a result, GOL will offer five international flights to Fortaleza Airport: two weekly services to Buenos Aires, two to Miami and one to Orlando. These flights join TAP and Air France services to Lisbon and Paris, respectively.
