After a 2022 of recovery, Ceará tourism continues to enjoy steady growth. In April, the sector experienced a surge, well ahead of the national average and looks set for a busy summer. In addition, the state has just announced that direct flights from Buenos Aires to Fortaleza are back.
Ceará tourism leads Brazil
The latest figures for April reveal that Ceará tourism leads Brazil in activity and revenue levels. It was the only state to experience growth in the service sector in April compared to March, with a 1% rise. Four sub-sectors, all directly related to tourism, contributed to this increase. In the rest of Brazil, activity in the services sector fell by 1.6% in April.
In terms of revenue, Ceará also stood out as a leader. The state income from tourism increased by 4% in April, month-on-month, while in Brazil it grew by just 0.5%. In yearly terms, Ceará saw a hike of 9.2% in tourist revenue.
Ahead of the country in Q1
The figures for April come on the back of those for Q1 this year when Ceará showed the consolidation of its tourist sector. Activity rose by 15.2% compared to 2022, the second highest in the country. The increase in Brazil was 11%.
According to the state tourist board, SETUR, tourism in Ceará now exceeds pre-pandemic levels. “In January this year, Ceará tourism was 38% higher than in February 2020, while March saw similar figures,” said Daniel Suliano from the Ceará Economic Forecast Unit.
Busy summer ahead
With tourism ahead of 2019 figures, Ceará is looking forward to a busy summer. The state is already the national favourite in July, according to the leading holiday portal in Latin America.
Decolar research showed that Fortaleza airport is the most popular for flight searches in July in Brazil. This makes Ceará the top destination in the country this summer.
Direct flight with Buenos Aires resumes
GOL Airlines has announced that it is resuming its direct flight between Buenos Aires and Fortaleza from 24 June onwards. The weekly service connects the Argentinian capital with Ceará and will bring almost 200 tourists to the state on every flight.
This announcement adds a further boost to tourism in Ceará this summer.
