Hotels reopening

According to the Ceará Secretary of Tourism, Arialdo Pinho, all hotels in Ceará should be reopen by 10 September. Some have never closed their doors, but most have been operating at minimum levels due to lack of tourists.

Since early July, the scenario has changed as gradually visitors return to Brazil’s favourite holiday destination. All hotel establishments are now fully open or about to with strict health and hygiene regulations in place.

Events back on the calendar

Pinho also announced that events in Ceará would be taking place again from the beginning of September. With 96% of the Fortaleza economy open for business after lockdown, events are about to follow suit.

Full activity will resume in four stages and Ceará expects to see events rescheduled by the end of October. The Congress Centre in the state is one of the most important in Northeast Brazil and attracts thousands of attendees a year. Events make up one of the fundamental pillars of tourism in Ceará.

International flights resume

In 2019, Fortaleza International Airport welcomed the fifth highest number of foreign visitors in Brazil and forms an important hub for Brazilian tourism. In mid-March this year, international flights were suspended, but are now gradually returning to the state.

According to Pinho, TAP is offering flights between Lisbon and Fortaleza, subject to demand and travel restrictions. Air France has announced that it will be resuming its Paris-Fortaleza service from 10 October with three flights a week.

This major boost to tourism in Ceará will continue when KLM returns to the Fortaleza skies at the end of October or beginning of November with flights to Amsterdam. Air Europa then follows with twice-weekly services to Madrid.
