The Coral Resort announces that it has taken on an acclaimed chef from Piauí to manage its kitchen. Chef Herschel Veras, from the state of Piauí, has taken part in a Brazilian television cooking show, and enjoyed a successful career in his home state to date.
The Coral Resort, a hotel development located in Trairi, has just announced the appointment of chef Herschel Veras for 2022. The chef participated in the Mestre do Sabor programme (Master of Taste), on TV Globo, last year, when he captivated the show with the regionalism and authenticity of his cuisine. In addition, he has been nominated twice for the “Oscar” of Brazilian Gastronomy, the Dolmã Prize.
Born in Piauí, Herschel discovered his passion for cooking in his childhood and began his career in gastronomy at the age of 17. In his home territory, he followed a successful journey with milestones such as becoming champion of the Teresina Chef, in 2019, presenting programmes on local TV such as “Receitas do Piauí” (Recipes from Piauí) and developing the social project of the largest community garden in Latin America, located in the capital.
Herschel defines himself as an advocate of cooking that values the product, with the focus on regional ingredients, and combines the traditional techniques of European cuisine with the thousands of possibilities for creating avant-garde cuisine.
“I like to create dishes that move you and at the same time, embrace and bring fond memories of familiar flavours. I also like to be creative and always surprise with a touch of novelty,” said the new chef at The Coral. His first challenge was to put together the new menu for the Ocean Lounge Beach Club restaurant, which guests can now try for themselves.
